About Web Application

This project began in late 2019 during a conversation between Ven. Sayadaw Kheminda, M.A. and Ven. Dr. Sayadaw Visuddha (The Abbot of Tavagū Dhammācariya Center in Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar), on Sumatra Island.

Ven. Sayadaw Kheminda frequently engaged in enjoyable discussions with him, inquiring about the Tipiṭaka and the well-established Buddhasāsana in Myanmar. During their conversation, Ven. Sayadaw Visuddha brought up the existence of Pāḷi Nissaya, Aṭṭhakathā Nissaya, and Ṭīkā Nissaya in Burmese. Ven. Sayadaw Kheminda quickly grasped the aspect and inquired about the possibility of transliterating and translating these books into English. In brief, they agreed to establish the Dhammavihārī Nissaya Translation Project (DNTP), which was officially launched on Jan. 1st, 2020. The team comprises highly educated Sayadaws from Myanmar and accomplished Buddhist scholars as well.

This web application is the result of the project that we present to strengthen Buddhasāsana in the archipelago and contribute to the spiritual development of its readers.
